How to Use Home Sharing in iOS 9

Home Sharing is a feature in iTunes that lets you share your music libraries across multiple computers and iOS devices within your home when connected to the same Wi-Fi network and using the same Apple ID. It went missing in iOS 8.4 earlier this summer, but now it has returned with iOS 9. The process of using it is similar to what it has always been. Now let’s go through the steps to see how to enable Home Sharing in iOS 9.

Step 1: Download and run the latest version of iTunes on Mac or Windows. You should keep in mind that you have to have iTunes opened on the computer to make Home Sharing work. When the main interface of iTunes comes up, click on File in the menu bar. Scroll down until you see Home Sharing and then choose on “Home Sharing“.

Step 2: Now, you must sign in with you Apple ID and password in the pop-up screen. The same Apple ID is available to be linked to up to five computers.

Step 3: After that, you need to turn on Home Sharing on your iOS Device. Launch Settings and scroll down until Music appears. Tap on “Music“, then toward the bottom of that menu is a Home Sharing section. Press “Sign in” enter the same Apple ID and password that you used on the computer. This can automatically sign you in for Home Sharing for music.

Step 4: To control iTunes or an Apple TV from iOS, you need to download Apple’s official Remote app from the App Store. If you’ve already downloaded it, then go to the app’s Settings menu, and set up the Remote to automatically detect compatible devices/libraries or manually add an iTunes library.

Step 5: Now you can go to Settings > Music > select “My Music” > click on “Artists“. Then it brings up a drop-down menu where you can optionally change how the music is displayed on the screen, such as Artist, Albums, Songs, Music Videos, Genres, Composer, Compilations or Home Sharing. You can tap on “Home Sharing” to pick a library.

Now you can enjoy your iTunes Home Sharing feature for whatever you want.

However, sometimes iTunes Home Sharing is buggy for some users because it might only work for certain files formats, or an error occur “You do not have permission to access the requested resources” when trying to access anything from iPhone. Don’t be frustrated, if you have any problem in transferring music or videos files between your computer and iTunes, you can use iPhone Transfer as a troubleshooting tool. It allows you to transfer music, videos from iPhone to PC or from PC to iPhone without limitations.
